I wrote this in response to a prompt I'd assigned my students (writing a narrative essay making a change from my usual fiction): write about a time something uncanny happened, something that would illustrate the quote from Hamlet that "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies."
